Cuando pienso en la cultura gastron\u00f3mica actual, en comparaci\u00f3n con la de anta\u00f1o, pienso en c\u00f3mo los viajes y la inmigraci\u00f3n han hecho que comer sea mucho m\u00e1s placentero. Tradicionalmente cada regi\u00f3n del mundo ten\u00eda sus alimentos b\u00e1sicos, por ejemplo, los irlandeses ten\u00edan papas, los latinoamericanos, tortillas, los italianos, pasta, y los del lejano Oriente, arroz. Los pobres sobreviv\u00edan casi exclusivamente con estos almidones baratos. Si tuviera que comer arroz en todos los tiempos de comida, todos los d\u00edas, a\u00f1o, tras a\u00f1o, este ser\u00eda solo un medio de subsistencia y estar\u00eda mucho m\u00e1s delgada.<\/p>

Ahora en la mayor parte del mundo, especialmente en nuestro diverso Estados Unidos, y en las grandes ciudades del mundo, donde las diferentes culturas comparten sus deliciosas recetas, de las que todos nos beneficiamos. Nuestros supermercados est\u00e1n llenos de frutas, verduras, y productos enlatados, que nunca v\u00ed, en los mercados de mi infancia. Los condimentos necesarios, desde los m\u00e1s comunes hasta los m\u00e1s ex\u00f3ticos, llegan a casa en nuestras bolsas de compras. De igual manera las culturas que nunca hab\u00edan conocido el comino, los jalape\u00f1os o el miso, se convierten en \u00e1vidos fan\u00e1ticos.<\/p>

Creo que pasa lo mismo en nuestras iglesias locales. Si solo unas pocas personas lo controlan todo, el ambiente puede estancarse. Cat\u00f3lico significa Universal, y nuestra religi\u00f3n es practicada por fieles en todas las regiones del mundo. Jes\u00fas instruy\u00f3 a sus seguidores a hacer disc\u00edpulos de todas las naciones y durante los \u00faltimos dos mil a\u00f1os lo han hecho. En nuestra Iglesia de Saint Lawrence y Sacred Heart contamos con la bendici\u00f3n de tener hombres, mujeres y ni\u00f1os talentosos, cat\u00f3licos de nacimiento y convertidos de diversas culturas, naciones as\u00ed como del mismo estado, personas que han venido del Bronx, y Yonkers.<\/p>

Cuando nos ofrecemos como voluntarios a los diferentes ministerios de la Iglesia, presentamos nuestras ideas y experiencias a los feligreses que crecieron con diferentes tradiciones, ampliando sus gustos e inspirando nuevas pasiones. En lugar de una dieta alimenticia similar a una misa semanal, podemos aprender de los diferentes l\u00edderes que imparten nuestra clase de formaci\u00f3n en la fe para adultos, as\u00ed como de los ni\u00f1os a quienes ense\u00f1amos educaci\u00f3n religiosa. Los talleres, las procesiones y las noches sociales pueden ser los condimentos que necesitemos para crecer y sentirnos satisfechos en nuestra comunidad caracterizada por la fe. Si no esperas que tres comidas de papa hervidas al d\u00eda, satisfaga tu paladar, puedes a\u00f1adir tambi\u00e9n condimentos esenciales a tu dieta, en la iglesia.<\/p>
