Liturgical

Altar Servers

The participation of Altar Servers in our liturgy is a long-standing tradition in the Catholic Church that has its roots in vocational training. This is a wonderful opportunity for our young ladies and young men, grade 5 and older, to experience Mass from “inside” the Liturgy and grow in Christ. Our young Altar Servers look back upon this service with a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment.

We provide all the training and guidance you will need.

For more information, please contact Father Oswaldo Hernandez at [email protected].

Eucharistic Ministers

Extraordinary Ministers of Communion in St. Lawrence O’Toole Parish are involved in the center of the Church’s life. They assist the Ordinary Ministers of Communion, the priests and deacons, in bringing the Eucharist to the residents of the Nursing Home, the homebound, and distributing Jesus to the faithful at mass. The celebration of the Eucharist on the Lord’s Day is the most important activity in the life of our church.

Parishioners are trained and commissioned as an Extraordinary Minister of Communion for the Parish.

For further information you can contact Betsy Hansbury at [email protected].

Greeters & Ushers

Greeters

Our Ministry greets people as they enter the Church. We distribute the missalettes, weekly bulletins and assist congregants in finding seating. Greeters also stay after the Masses to wish the people a good day, and make sure that no one is left feeling isolated or unwelcomed.

For more information or to get involved please contact Sally Harley at [email protected].

Ushers

This Ministry plays an important part for the Parish in preparing the Church prior to Mass.

The duties of an usher are to:

  • Prepare the Offertory table at the back of the Church for the Mass.
  • Ask parishioners to bring the gifts of wine and the host to the priest at the Offertory of the Mass.
  • Ushers assist with the collections during the Mass.
  • Tidy-up the pews after Mass is complete.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming an usher and volunteering your time in preparation for Mass at St. Lawrence O’Toole, please contact Joe Massimo at [email protected].

Lectors

Those who proclaim the word of God are called Ministers of the Word or — as is commonly known — Lectors. Those who answer the call to become lectors enter into a deeper relationship with God as He is revealed in the Sacred Scripture.

We at St. Lawrence O’Toole are truly blessed to have a group of men, women and teenagers who are dedicated and committed to this wonderful ministry.

If you are interested in learning more about the Lectors Ministry at St. Lawrence O’Toole, please contact Suzanne Walsh at [email protected]

Music

Music is integral to the liturgy: It unifies and heightens our response to the Word of God. The array of opportunities to make music in our church challenges those with years of musical experience while offering the less experienced a new way to express their faith. Participation in one of our groups provides our parishioners the chance to contribute to our communal life actively and vibrantly. Above all, by praising God with our voices, we become instruments through which God moves and speaks.

Adult Choir

Our volunteer-based Adult Choir brings the gift of music to our Sunday liturgy at 11 am at St. Lawrence and 10:30 am at Sacred Heart. With a wide range of musical styles, from traditional hymns to contemporary music, faith and worship songs, our choir adds a special touch to our worship experience. Playing an integral role in our liturgy, the Adult Choir leads our parishioners in song, psalms, and responses during Sunday Masses and special occasions. We invite adults (high school age and older) to join our choir!

Our weekly rehearsals occur at St. Lawrence on Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in our beautiful choir lof and at Sacred Heart on Tuesdays at 6:30 pm in the church. This is the perfect opportunity if you’re passionate about music and worship.
