One of the more outrageous demands LGBTQ advocates and even some schools are making is that some kids know they are transgender and they should be administered hormones to block the normal development into puberty. This is a terrible thing to do because it blocks the development of a healthy body and can leave the young person permanently sterile.
Confusion about one’s gender (“gender dysphoria”) at certain ages is nothing new. It seems to have exploded in our day because people are willing to consider hormones and surgery to change their gender. It is sometimes felt strongly in people who have experienced trauma or loss, and especially young people with other conditions, such as finding themselves on the autism spectrum.
However, research shows that the great majority of young people who experience the sense that they are “in the wrong body” resolve it naturally over time. They need a supportive family and often good, sound counseling. What they don’t need is medical interventions. They don’t need surgery that amputates perfectly healthy body parts to artificially appear the other sex.
