“As Catholics, we know that all human life, from the moment of conception, is infused with an immortal soul by God and is sacred. We are ” made in the image and likeness of God” and have intrinsic dignity. That means the rest of us have a responsibility to protect and nurture human life. We can never rest until every human person is welcomed into life and protected by law. That is our ultimate goal.
But the Church knows that across the world, we live in pluralistic societies in which many people do not agree with our principles and that while never giving up on the goal of protecting all innocent human life, we sometimes have to settle for very imperfect compromises. The Supreme Court has established there is no Constitutional right to abortion, and as a result, the decision about protecting human life is left to the States or Congress.
Wherever we are, we should work for the maximum respect for human life we can achieve in a particular place and time. That might mean accepting some very flawed laws and working to change hearts and minds over the long run. It might also mean that some pro-life people will disagree on the most prudent approaches and the best tactics. But we all remain united in our long-term goal.
At Gianna’s House, we are focused on serving the moms. The reality is most of them considering abortion feel desperate, and without the help they need. Gianna’s House works to address those issues so moms have all the support they need to choose life.”
