Beautiful blue skies and sunshine greeted fifty pilgrims from St Lawrence who joined the Eucharistic Procession in New York City—the day started early at St Lawrence, where the group boarded a bus to St Patrick’s Cathedral. Cardinal Dolan celebrated Mass for the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity and welcomed 2,500 pilgrims to the Cathedral.
The Eucharistic procession began following Mass and Benediction at St. Patrick’s. Jesus, in a monstrance under a canopy, was followed by 1,000 pilgrims of many ages and cultural backgrounds, including young families with children in strollers. The pilgrims joyfully sang praise and worship songs in Spanish and English and prayed rosaries in both languages.
The first stop on the journey was at St Peter Church on Barclay Street. A talk and benediction followed a time of adoration. The next stop was at the Shrine of Elizabeth Ann Seton, with a talk, ad- oration, and benediction. The last leg of the journey was the walk to the Brooklyn Bridge. Under the brilliant blue sky and warm breeze, the Blessed Sacrament transferred to the Diocese of Brooklyn. Bishop Robert Brennan, accompanied by hundreds of pilgrims, received Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament to continue the next leg of the journey in the Diocese of Brooklyn.
Returning to St Lawrence at the end of the day, our group knew they had been a part of something special. They had accompanied Jesus in the streets of New York, bringing His peace and presence to a city that sometimes feels far from Christ. It was indeed a privilege to be part of this monumental event! The National Eucharistic Revival continues and will culminate with the National Eucharistic Congress on July 17, 21, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tickets are still available for this event!
