We just concluded our first series of the Rescue Project. It was an extraordinary experience. One woman told me that at the retreat, during a quiet time of reflection, she started writing down her thoughts and feelings. She stressed that she never writes; she has never recorded her feelings, but she felt very inspired that day. It was such a positive experience that she offered her words to me, so that I could share them with you. Keep in mind, this woman is an active parishioner who attends weekly Mass and Holy Days faithfully. She attended Catholic Middle and High School, and this program opened her mind and heart to God in a way she has never experienced before. The following are her words from her journal:
“The Gospel is power.
“Jesus, I believe you are always with me. No doubt. I give myself to you. I did not need convincing, but it is good/great to have my heart and feelings confirmed.
“I am never alone; I often wonder “Am I fulfilling what God wants from me?” God’s work in me, to which I respond, enables me to see.
“Faith is a way of knowing. It is not blind. Faith is surrender. Jesus, I give myself to you.
“I need to give the Holy Spirit permission, then he moves me to surrender, and convinces me that Jesus came to rescue me. He gives me the grace to be overwhelmed.
“I don’t think there is any day that I don’t feel/hear the Holy Spirit guiding me; I am so grateful that I feel the Spirit, a Champion, in my soul.
“As many sorrows and regrets I have experienced in my life, I realized I have had just as many blessings- I try to remember that it is all in God’s hands.
“Words are not enough…”
Scripture: Read John 14:26-27. What stands out?
